COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This webinar is designed to support speech-language pathologists in identifying key features of African American English (AAE) across linguistic domains. The course explores strategies to promote more effective assessment and service delivery for AAE-speaking students. | This course is offered for 0.1 ASHA CEUs (Intermediate Level, Related Area) This course meets DEI requirements previously set forth by ASHA.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
Upon course completion, participants will be able to:
• identify prominent features of African American English
• list three strategies to improve diagnostic accuracy for AAE-speaking populations
• integrate more equitable practices and procedures into speech-language therapy

PRESENTER BIO:
Dr. Latimer-Hearn holds a Ph.D. in Instructional Leadership for Changing Populations and has served as a multilingual speech-language pathologist and educational consultant in the US and abroad since 2002. She is a recipient of the AERA Minority Dissertation Fellowship Award. Her internationally recognized research focuses on AAE, cultural-linguistic diversity, and race and class issues in education.
